Getting started
From a brand-new account to your first quote: what to load first, how to get your first price and where to go next.
On this page
Create the account
Go to the signup page and tap Create account. You can use Continue with Google or fill in the fields by hand: Your shop name, Your name, Your email, Phone (optional) and Password, and accept the terms and the privacy policy.
Signup does not ask for a username: BenchyOps builds one from your email, and then you log in with the email or with that username. It does not ask for a card either.
The free trial
Every new account starts with a free trial of the full Pro plan, with no card. By default it lasts 14 days; the signup screen shows the exact days you get.
When the trial ends, if you do not pick a paid plan, you stay on the free plan (Hobby). Nothing you loaded gets deleted.
If you pay for a plan before the trial ends, you keep everything from the Pro plan until the original trial date passes: paying early does not cut the days you had left.
All the details
The limits of each plan, how payment works and what happens on expiry are in Plans, free trial and payments.
What to load first
You do not need to load everything before quoting. The starter quote calculator builds a printer and a filament with reference values if you have not loaded yours yet, so you are not stopped by two forms.
If you want the numbers to come out with your real costs, this is the order that works:
- 1
Your base costs
In Settings → Workshop → Prices load electricity, labor and your margin. That sets the floor for every quote.
- 2
Your printers
In Printers load each machine with its power draw and its cost per hour (electricity, wear and maintenance).
- 3
Your filaments
In Filaments load each material with its cost per kilo and its density.
The reason is simple: a part price adds up material, electricity, machine use, labor and your profit. If those costs are right, the price is right. See How the price is calculated.
Your first price
On the dashboard, an account with no quotes sees the Get your first price card with two buttons: Quote a G-code and Try an example. You can also go to Quotes → New quote.
- 1
Drop the G-code
Drag the file you already sliced or pick it with the button. BenchyOps reads the time, grams, colors, material and printer model.
- 2
See the price
The Suggested price shows up right away, flagged as Estimate if reference values were used.
- 3
Adjust the values
You can change Machine use, Filament and Electricity. The price updates on its own.
- 4
Confirm the quote
When you confirm it, the printer and the filament are saved with those values (the filament, with a 1 kg spool). You adjust them later in Printers and Filaments.
If you do not have a G-code handy, Try an example shows you how a price is built (the example is not saved). And if you would rather enter everything by hand, use Add printer and Add filament.
Which files it reads
It accepts .gcode and .gcode.3mf files from Bambu Studio, Orca, Prusa and Cura.
The guided tour and how to replay it
At the top right, the ? button opens the help menu. From there you can replay the guided tours and open this documentation.
- View dashboard tour walks you through the menu, the metrics, the Getting started list and the quick actions.
- View quoting tour appears while you are on New quote and shows you each part of the quote calculator.
- View board tour appears on the production board and explains its columns.
- Documentation opens the help center.
The tours do not start on their own: you ask for them from that button and can replay them as many times as you want.
Tip
If you do not have a printer yet, finishing the dashboard tour offers to get your first price.
The Getting started list
On the dashboard, the Getting started card lays out the path to your first sale and checks itself off as you do each thing:
- Get your first price from a G-code
- Adjust the estimated costs to yours
- Send a quote by link
- Publish a product in your store (only shown with the Pro plan)
It shows the Progress (for example, 2 of 4) and you can dismiss it when you no longer need it.
What to do next
With your first quote ready, the path continues:
- Share it with your customer and follow its status in How to share a quote.
- Move the job into production in The production board.
- Record the sale, the shipping and the payment in Sales and shipping and Finances.
- Save what you print often in the Catalog and, with the Pro plan, publish it in your online store.
