Product catalog and variants

How to save products with their price to quote faster and show them in your shop, and what happens when costs change.

What the catalog is for

The Catalog saves the products you print often with their weight, time, materials and Sale price. It is used for two things: quoting without recalculating from scratch, and showing products in your online shop.

To quote faster, in the quote calculator you select the product and the weight, time, materials, supplies, labor, risk and profit are autofilled. From the product card, Quote opens a new quote with that data.

Saving a product does not force you to publish it: you can have products only for internal workshop use.

How a product price is calculated

A product price is calculated with the same engine as a one-piece quote: material, supplies, energy, machine usage, labor, risk margin and your profit, rounded up. See How the price is calculated.

The printer, the Labor per piece and the risk belong to the product. If the product has no labor of its own, the one from Settings → Workshop → Prices is used. If it has no risk of its own, it starts at zero.

Profit starts with your Default margin (30% if you did not choose another). It is a markup on cost, just like in a quote.

Same number on both sides

With the same data, the price of a one-piece product equals that of a quote for that piece.

Variants

A variant is a version of the same product with its own weight, time, materials and price: another color, another size, another finish. The product and its variants share the printer, the labor and the risk; each variant can have its own profit.

The base variant goes with the product and cannot be deleted; the others are loaded under Variants. Each one has its own Show in shop switch to decide if it is visible.

In the price review, a variant with the same profit as the product follows the one you choose for the product; those with their own profit keep it.

The price review

Products created before September 2026 were calculated with an old formula, without labor or risk, and could give a different price than the quote calculator. Those products stay flagged and the notice Review your catalog prices appears.

In the review you see the Current price, the New price and how much it changes. You can set each product profit, use the default profit on all of them, or tap Keep price to keep today price.

Until you tap Apply new prices, old products do not move to the new calculation. New prices are calculated with your current costs; you only choose the profit.

Products saved from the quote calculator

Products saved from the quote calculator before September 2026 ended up without profit (at cost, with the failure margin). The review suggests your default profit for them so they go back to a sale price.

Showing products in your shop

In Edit product you can check Show in shop so your customers see it in your online shop, and Feature in shop so it appears in the Featured section.

Showing products in the shop is part of the Pro plan. Hidden products are not shown in the shop, but can still be used to quote.

Variants also have their own Show in shop switch, so you can publish only some versions.

When filament costs change

When the cost of a filament, a supply or a printer changes, BenchyOps recalculates product prices so they do not keep an old cost.

Products still using the old formula keep being recalculated with that old formula: they do not move to the quote calculation on their own. That is what the price review is for.

A saved quote, on the other hand, keeps the price it was calculated with even if costs go up. See How the price is calculated.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to save the product to quote it?

No. The quote calculator works without the catalog; saving the product is useful to avoid loading the data again next time.

What happens to previous orders if I change or delete a product?

Previous orders with that product do not change.

Can a hidden product be quoted?

Yes. Hidden means it is not shown in the shop, not that it cannot be used to quote.

What is the difference between the product and the base variant?

The base variant is the copy of the product: it stays in sync with its data and its price. The other variants are loaded separately.

Who can edit the catalog?

The workshop owner and admins.
